Laboratory strain
YJM789
Whole genome sequences have provided biologists with the information necessary to develop new technologies, many of which have led to recent breakthroughs in genomics. To stimulate further developments, we have sequenced a clinical isolate of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, namely YJM789 that was derived from the lung of an AIDS patient. This strain has many phenotypic differences with respect to S288c, the previously sequenced laboratory strain of yeast. A complete genome sequence
comparison between these two strains marks one of the first times
that two complete genome sequences are available for two individuals of the same eukaryotic species. We will identify new and missing gene sequences as well as hot and coldspots of polymorphism.
