The new Cooke Laboratory opens! On May 25, 2004 we celebrated the opening of the new Cooke Laboratory in the Cardiovascular Research Center (CVRC) at Stanford University. This bright new modern laboratory will enhance the ongoing research in the Cooke Laboratory, and by its proximity to the laboratories of the other investigators in the CVRC will enhance collaboration and exchange of ideas.
The Cooke Lab and friends celebrate in the CVRC lobby before taking a tour of the new laboratory. Dr. Cooke thanked Drs. Tom Quertermous and Judith Swain for providing the leadership for the remodeling of the CVRC.
The laboratory looks so good I almost wish I was a postdoc again! Almost...
The most important architectural element of the new laboratory is that which is missing.......the walls. In remodeling this wing of the CVRC, 3 walls were removed to provide seamless space. Knocking down walls is emblematic of what we are doing in the Cardiovascular Research Center. The investigators in the Cardiovascular Research Center do not build walls or recognize them. The best science requires a broad array of technologies and multidisciplinary collaborations. All of the scientists and students in this building share ideas, equipment and skills. In addition, we have collaborations with many of the other clinical and basic science divisions and departments across the University, as well as throughout Silicon Valley with the biotech and medical device companies working in cardiovascular biology and medicine Below are pictures of the new lab space -- before move in.
Stop by the lab and ask for a tour.
