Congenital Heart Disease ClinicThe adult congenital heart disease clinic specializes in the problems of patients who were born with congenital heart defects and who are now adults facing a new range of challenges. Although most will have undergone corrective surgery, some will have previously untreated, recently discovered or complex residual conditions requiring treatment with drugs, interventional procedures or surgery. In addition attention is directed to new rhythm disturbances, heart failure, possible need for pacemakers and the cardiac concerns of adulthood such as pregnancy as well as management of hypertension and cholesterol. Commonly encountered situations include repaired Tetralogy of Fallot, Mustard procedures, Fontan operations, "Switch" operations, congenital valvular abnormalities, pulmonary hypertension and cyanotic heart disease.
